Similar to the issue with Indonesia, the China country code (+86) is not available for SMS-based 2FA .

Solutions:

Use GitHub Mobile: Users in China can install and log into the GitHub Mobile app. When you need to authenticate on the web, the site will show a two-digit code that you enter into the app to approve the login .

Use an Authenticator App: This is the most reliable method. Apps like Microsoft Authenticator work perfectly in China and are recommended by many developers there .

If SMS verification is not available for China (+86), the best option is to use an authenticator app instead of SMS.

Apps like Microsoft Authenticator, Aegis, FreeOTP, or Authy generate verification codes offline, so they work normally in China and do not require Google services.

You can also install the GitHub Mobile app to approve login requests, and it is a good idea to save your recovery codes in case you lose access to your device.
