Honestly, it’s mostly because platforms like GitHub are built for code and backend, not design, so developers often prioritize function over feel... |

Hi LYNN-yebei, Yes, collaboration with UI/UX designers can significantly improve open-source projects, especially those intended for end users. Many open-source projects start as developer-driven initiatives where the primary goal is solving a technical problem. Because of that, contributors often focus more |

How Designers Can Contribute: Look for Design-Ready Projects: Start with projects that explicitly welcome UX work. Indicators include issues labeled "UX," "design," or "good first design issue," and projects with design documentation or a dedicated UX team . Participate in the Community: Engage in project discussions, forums, and chat channels. Understanding the community's context, how decisions are made, and the technical constraints is crucial before proposing major changes . Show Your Work and Rationale: When proposing a design, document your process clearly. Connect your proposals to existing project patterns and explain the user-centered rationale behind your decisions. This helps developers understand the value of the contribution and makes collaboration smoother |

For contributors working on open-source software aimed at end users, have you ever considered collaborating with UI/UX designers?
From my understanding, many open-source software projects were originally created with users’ needs in mind. And Getting suggestions from UX designers about the user interface of an open source project can be a great way to improve user experience when making changes to the code.
So I wonder why UI/UX designers are not more commonly involved in contributing to these projects. Or are there any ways to contribute user expriences design in this community?
