I am still showing up as a contributor to a repository after I left #184121

GitHub still shows you as a contributor because contributor status is based on the repository’s commit history, not on current access or membership. Even though you left the repository and no longer have access to its settings, any commits you made remain in the history and can still be associated with your GitHub account if the email matches. Unfortunately, you cannot remove this yourself; only the repository owner can rewrite or remove the commits, or you can try detaching the email used for those commits from your GitHub account to reduce the public association. |

This happens because GitHub tracks contributions based on commit authorship, not just repository membership. When you leave a repository, your past commits don’t disappear — they are still part of the project history, so GitHub continues to list you as a contributor. That does not mean you are still a collaborator or have any access to the repo. You cannot remove yourself from the contributor list unless the repository owner rewrites history (for example by removing or re-attributing your commits), which is rarely done because it affects the entire repo. If what you’re worried about is public visibility: If you need your name removed for legal or privacy reasons, the only path is to contact the repository owner or GitHub Support, but in normal cases this behavior is expected and not a bug. |

I do not want to be affiliated to that repository at all, I don't know if it shows up on my public page but I need it to be gone. I also can no longer go into the settings on that repository since I left.
